E30 325i Motorsport convertible Switchable automatic · Nagaro Silver · 106k
We are selling this fabulous E30 Motorsport Convertible on behalf of the current owner who is in the armed forces and has been posted away for 5 years. The car has undergone a fantastic program of improvement and invested heavily over the last two years to make this one of the loveliest convertibles we have seen in a long long while. Starting with an amazingly rust free vehicle the owner has systematically gone about improving every aspect of the car and bringing it up to an amazing standard.
The Motorsport Edition.
The Motorsport Edition cars were available from 1988-1991 and in total 590 were produced in right-hand drive. Based on a 325i convertible the Motorsport Edition cars received M-Technic suspension as standard and were available in 4 special motorsport only colours, Macau Blue, Calypso Red, Sebring Grey, Mauritius Blue and Nagaro Silver. The interiors were offered in an extended leather covering not only the seats but the whole door card, centre and handbrake consoles as well as the ashtray, better stitching and dependant on year stitched Motorsport stripes. Variations where made every year and well-specced cars such as the one we are offering with switchable sports automatic gearbox and hydraulic hood would have set you back £30000 in 1989!
As mentioned above, the car is well-specced having both the hydraulic hood option and the sports switchable ZF automatic transmission. The car is equipped with a superbly clean and comfortable grey sports leather interior which is manually operated. The interior is extremely clean throughout and has benefited from having had all the leather professionally recolonised so there is absolutely no sign of wear to anything. The interior is bordering on pristine condition with none of the heavy staining that is common with grey interiors. This car also has lovely clean carpets free of any stains and a crack-free dashboard which is becoming quite a rarity in itself. The Mtec one leather-covered steering wheel and gear selector are also in fine fettle.
The owner started with an exceptionally rust free vehicle (This thing is spotless underneath and any inspection is welcome) but it had suffered from some lacquer peel so as with the interior with no expense spared the car has undergone a full respray in its resplendent Nagaro Silver Motorsport paint. The paint quality is excellent and having only been done last year it looks fantastically fresh and deep. Free of annoying car park dents, chips and scratches every last panel including the colour coded bumpers looks as good as new. In the process of the glass out respray the car has been treated to many new rubber seals, light lenses and a fresh windscreen so this car really does look as good as new, a theme hit home by the attention to detail and action of reproduction period correct dealer number plates, new badges and dealer stickers means it is quite stunning.
Drivetrain: the Motorsport Edition cars were based on the 325i convertibles so this car has the wonderful M20 B25 engine found in all E30 325i’s. Mechanically this car is just as good as every other aspect having had each system checked and parts replaced as necessary. The engine is strong, pulls nicely and runs exactly as it should. The switchable sports ZF 4HP 22 gearbox also performs perfectly, smooth changes and functions exactly as it should in all modes. The car has been treated to lots of new mechanical parts including bushes and service items, timing belt and so on has all been renewed within the last two years. It runs and drives exactly as it should, goes well and pulls up straight and true having also benefited from new brakes and the 15 inch BBS wheels are shod in 4 matching premium quality tyres. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive and is just as happy bombing down the B roads as it is cruising through the town. The car has had all its fluids replaced and we have just set the tappets as part of our pre-sale checklist.
This car has been the subject of a great deal of investment and attention to detail to create what is probably one of the nicest examples of an original E30 convertible on sale today. It has the added benefit of being a Motorsport Edition which I must say does make it feel a little more of a special place to be. It drives superbly and looks stunning. For someone who is looking for the best possible convertible E30 or one to put away for the future this is a superb car and an attractive option. There is a great deal of paperwork and invoices available with the car documenting all the recent work, it also has its original owners handbook and service book.
